What is Polestar? Volvo’s speedy partner


What is Polestar? Well, unless you’re an astronomer or a Boy Scout, it’s Volvo’s official high performance and racing partner and has been since 1996. The reason you probably have never heard of them is because (a) Polestar has raced in European touring car series that receive little coverage or attention in North America, and (b) the high performance parts made and sold in Europe have not yet been sold over here.

You no doubt remember when Volvos went from boxy but safe to stylish and safe. More recently, the Swedish cars have become rather racy as well. Volvo has a fairly long history of motorsports participation, and is now offering buyers a way to enhance vehicle performance without voiding the factory warranty.

Exclusive First Test: Volvo S60 T6 AWD with Polestar 325-hp Software Upgrade


We should probably start with a quick recap. Back in April, Volvo debuted the 2012 S60 and XC60 US-spec models at the New York International Auto Show with a very special surprise: the company had found a way to tweak the standard T6 engine, which makes 300 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque, to an even more impressive 325 horsepower and 354 lb-ft.
